A Moment in the Creative Process
One morning during the early branding process, while Relajarse still existed only as a dream and a stretch of land in Costa Rica, one of the founders called me. I could immediately tell something had clicked. His energy was unmistakable.
“I’ve been thinking about the logo,” he said.
A brief pause.“It needs to include a Guanacaste tree… a monkey… a surfer… and a parrot.”
It was one of those moments that lives somewhere between excitement and gentle internal panic — the kind every designer quietly recognizes. Not because the ideas were wrong, but because they carried so much meaning to the client. Each one represented something real: the rooted strength of the Guanacaste tree, the playful presence of monkeys moving through the canopy, the rhythm and freedom of the ocean, and the vibrant life woven into the landscape.
This challenge wasn’t about fitting four images into a logo. It was about capturing a feeling. A place. An experience that didn’t yet exist, but was already deeply alive in their minds. Moments like this are where my role becomes part translator, part guide. My job wasn’t to simply assemble symbols, but to listen beneath the request — to understand the emotional truth behind it — and shape it into something clear, timeless, and aligned.
The final logo honors the spirit of what they shared, without overwhelming the calm, refined presence the brand needed to embody. It reflects the essence of Relajarse: grounded, alive, and effortlessly connected to its environment.
What began as an excited phone call filled with imagery became a mark that feels simple, intentional, and enduring — a visual anchor for a place that, at the time, existed only as vision.
Today, it lives at the heart of the brand, quietly telling that story.
